Mackilee Samilton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home - Wetumka on Nov. 19, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Mackilee Samilton, 94, of Wetumka, Oklahoma, transitioned to be with the Lord comfortably and peacefully at Avonlea Assisted Cottage of Seminole on November 13, 2025.

He was born August 24, 1931, to Steve and Idella Samilton in Unity, at their homestead

Mackilee attended Unity Community Elementary and then graduated from Douglas High School on May 23, 1952.

Mackilee met Melven Berry Samilton in high school, and on October 10, 1954, they were joined in marriage. To this union, seven children were born-three children in Oklahoma and four children in Wichita, Kansas.

Mackilee and Melven, along with their three children, left Oklahoma for several years for Wichita, Kansas. While in Wichita, he worked at Beech Aircraft Corporation for many years and at Kitty Clover Potato Chips Company, and they attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. In 1971, they moved back to Oklahoma.

Mackilee worked at Co-op Peanut Company in Wetumka until the company closed down, then took a job at Wetumka Public Schools as a custodian until he retired.

Mackilee and Melven were members of Wetumka Northside Baptist Church, where he became an ordained pastor at the age of 73. He preached there until the church closed its doors, and they then moved their membership to Living Waters Church of Wetumka.

While taking care of his family and the home that he built from the ground up, he also had a big 40-acre farm. He had a large garden, cows, hogs, and pigs that he took care of every day. He was featured in the Wetumka newspaper for growing some of the biggest cantaloupes, cabbages, and sweet potatoes.

He loved working and being outside. He had dogs and chickens, and he loved to smoke his pipe or cigars under the shade tree or on the front porch.

Mackilee was preceded in death by his wife, Melven Samilton; six children, Mackilee Samilton Jr., Mitchell Samilton Sr., Janice Hubbard, Clarissa, Leetta Faye Samilton and Clifford Eugene Samilton; his loving parents, Steve Samilton and Idella Samilton; along with three brothers and two sisters.

Mackilee leaves to cherish his memories his three children: Sheila Broner of Wetumka; Steve Samilton of Wetumka; and Tina Coleman (Jimmy Coleman) of Shawnee; 24 grandchildren; over 40 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

He also leaves behind 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and a host of relatives and friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Avonlea Assisted Cottage and Traditions Health Services of Seminole.
