Melven Marie Samilton

Melven Marie Samilton, 87, of Wetumka, Oklahoma transitioned to be with the Lord peacefully in her home on December 12, 2024 supported by her husband and 3 children.
She was born June 18, 1937 to Joe Rommie and Katie Berry in Wetumka, Oklahoma. Melven attended Wisner and Unity School at an early age, then attended Douglass High School.
Melven met Mackilee Samilton in high school, and on October 10, 1954 they were joined in marriage. To this union 7 children were born. 3 children in Oklahoma, and 4 children in Wichita, Kansas.
While in Wichita, Kansas, she worked at St. Francis Hospital as a dietician and they attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. In 1971, they moved back to Oklahoma. Melven worked at Big Yank of Wewoka, Wetumka Hospital as a dietician, and as a healthcare provider. She retired at the age of 80.
Melven and Mackilee were members of Wetumka Northside Baptist Church until the doors closed and they moved their membership to Living Waters Church of Wetumka. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Boys and Girls Club of Wewoka, and she was the only black woman on the board of East Central Clinic. She loved to serve the Lord. She did her devotion every morning before she started her day. She loved to frequently call to check on her loved ones. She also enjoyed the Oklahoma City Thunder and opening her home to family and friends.
Melven was preceded in death by her four children, Mackilee Samilton Jr., Mitchell Samilton Sr., Janice Hubbard, and Clarissa Hart; her loving parents, Joe Rommie and Katie Berry; along with her 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Melven leaves to cherish her memories; her husband of 70 years, Mackilee Samilton Sr.; 3 children, Sheila Broner (Chris Lunsford) of Wetumka, Steve Samilton of Tulsa, and Tina Coleman (Jimmy Coleman) of Shawnee; 22 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Melven also leaves behind 2 sisters, 1 brother, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Melven Samilton will be held Friday, December 20, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
Funeral Services for Melven Samilton will be Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 AM at Wetumka First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery of Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
