Sue Ward Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 4, 2025.
Sue Lynn Ward was born on March 17, 1940 to Harold T. and Elizabeth Juanita Flaugher. Sue passed peacefully into God's hands on September 27, 2025.

At 7 years of age, Sue moved with her family to the Creole Oil Camp of Caripito in Venezuela. Her family resided there for 18 years. Sue attended the staff school in Caripito before going to Saint Katherine's School for Young Ladies in Davenport, Iowa. In high school, Sue was elected Queen of the Annual May Fete and her Senior Class President. She would later attend Tarrant County Junior College in Texas, where she graduated with honors.

During her latter years in Venezuela, she met her husband-to-be, Richard Ward. His father also worked with Creole. Following graduation from high school, Sue attended the University of Oklahoma. Richard was seeking his degree in Aeronautical Space Engineering at OU as well. It was love at first sight! They married after their freshman year. Together, they resided in various towns across the United States including Fluorescent, MO, Hazelwood, MO, Edwardsville, IL, Fort Worth, TX, and Weatherford, TX, while Richard developed his career of designing military aircraft for the United States Military. Sue held different jobs through her life including management assistant, writer, and publishing. She worked at the Tandy Center during her time in Fort Worth.

Upon retirement, the Ward family settled in Wetumka. Sue and Richard had two sons, Richard Dallas Ward, and William Scott Ward. She was a member of the Episcopalian church.

Sue was an "old-fashioned" stay-at-home wife and mother who cherished her family and loved to display her abilities as a gourmet cook. Her love for others and her beautiful spirit will always be remembered by those blessed enough to be around her. Sue never had a bad word to say about anyone throughout her life.

Sue had many interests including reading, gardening, cooking, sewing, fishing, refinishing furniture and enjoying family activities. Her most precious memories were the births of her children and all the time she spent raising them.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ward, after 60 years of a beautiful marriage.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard Dallas Ward of Wetumka, and William Scott Ward of Enid; her brother, W Terry Flaugher of Edmond; and extended family members of the Ward, Flaugher, Shaber, Melton and Campbell families.

Sue's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all of Sue's doctors, caretakers, and hospice for their loving care. The memories she leaves behind will be cherished by all who knew her.
