Madeleine White "Lynn" Steele

Madeleine W. "Lynn" Steele, 85, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with her daughter and family by her side.
She was born on June 26, 1940, in Columbus, OH as the daughter to the late Harold C. Armstrong and Martha Heath Armstrong. Lynn attended and graduated from North High School in Columbus and went on to receive an associates degree from Columbus State Community College before attending Miami University.
Lynn was a longtime member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where she was also a part of the Questors Sunday School Class, member of the choir, and played handbells. She also went on many choir trips when the youth travel around the country to sing. She enjoyed knitting, a good game of Bridge and was an avid University of Louisville football and basketball fan. The most rewarding part of Lynn's life was the time she spent with her grandchildren. Whether it was a funny story about something they had done, or a warm hug or simply just being a comforting presence in their life, she treasured the bond she shared with each one of them. They brought a special kind of joy, laughter, and purpose that filled her heart in ways nothing else ever could.
She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, G. Eugene Steele, and a beloved daughter, Jane Steele Tassin.
Lynn is survived by her children, Susan Steele Lee (David Lee, Jr.) and Thomas Kidwell, Jr.; grandchildren, David Lee, III, Baron Steele Lee; Madeleine and Heath Tassin, Derek Kidwell, great granddaughter, Alora Kidwell; cousin, Glennia Kohler and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane, Louisville followed by entombment in Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service at the church at 11 am. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews is entrusted with arrangements.
In keeping with Lynn's love of her Sunday School Class and her faith, it was her wishes to have memorial gifts directed to the Questors Sunday School Class or to St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
