Madeline Jackson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 18, 2026.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 4:00 a.m. Sister Madeline Jackson heard the sound of the trumpet. She finished her work here on Earth, she cried her last tear and she won the race to see her Lord and Savior in Heaven above. Now, right at this moment, she has a new home not made by man and is happily rejoicing and worshipping with Almighty God.

Madeline was born in Kenton, De on August 10, 1930, to the late Anna Jackson and Thomas Jackson.

Madeline went to Lockwood School (Dupont), School for the "Colored", during her early years and graduated from Delaware State College High School. After High School, she left Delaware and headed to Philadelphia where she pursued a career in Cosmetology. Upon completion, she returned to Delaware where she became a hairdresser in her own home. She always loved styling the ladies' hair in the community. Madeline later went to work for Loving Care Christian Nursery in Smyrna, De for 13years, later she worked at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, where she retired as a Nurse's Assistant after 14years. Later down the years she began her own transportation service called "Joy Transportation". She always loved helping others and enjoyed being a blessing to those around her. Her hobbies were cooking, baking, needle point, crocheting, sewing, and crabbing. Her motto to her children was: Be the best at whatever you do, or don't do it at all.

Madeline was a lifelong member of Lockwood Chapel/Emmanuel A.M.E. Church. In 1990 she received the R. A. Achievement Reward. In 2023 she was recognized as one of two Honorary Mothers of the Church by Pastor Francena Orr.

She truly loved her Church Emmanuel A.M.E. and you would see her smiling face every Sunday.

She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Thomas Jackson. Siblings, Mabel Summers, Thomas Jackson Jr, Walter Jackson and Mamie Jackson. Her seven children, Melody, Henry, Jacqueline, Beverly, Keith, Wayne, and Robert. Longtime companion Robert Swain.

She leaves to cherish beautiful memories to her two sons: Stanley (Yvette), Renn. Two daughter-in-laws, Naomi and Pam. One Son-in-law Coleman Rothwell, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren. One devoted grandson Theodore Jackson and one Special cousin Dorothy Guy. Nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and wonderful Church family.

Love you Mama we will all surely miss you, Love your son Stanley
