Madonna Einwalter, age 91, of Hiawatha (formerly Fort Atkinson) died on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, IA. Burial will be in the St. Johns cemetery in Fort Atkinson, IA with Father Nick Radloff presiding.
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Friday morning. There will be a rosary prayed for Madonna at 7:45 a.m. at the church on Friday morning.
Madonna (Wichman) Einwalter was born June 24, 1933, to Joseph and Huberta (McAleer) Wichman in Waucoma, IA and grew up in Lawler, IA. Madonna married Gene Einwalter of Fort Atkinson, IA on May 29, 1952. After a short stint in Lawton, OK while Gene was in the military service, they made their home on the family farm in Fort Atkinson, IA and raised their four children. Madonna kept everyone on task for their chores while always making sure there was enough food and drink on hand for the many visitors that frequently drove up their drive.
Madonna worked for over 30 years as bookkeeper for Paul Kuhn Company/Franzen Sales and Service. After Gene retired from farming, they enjoyed attending family reunions, traveling to see their extended families and playing cards with their close group of friends.
She spent the last 12 years in Cedar Rapids, IA. Four of the years were spent at The Views in Marion, IA. She was under the gracious watch of her granddaughter-in-law while there and was notorious for winning many of the bingo games she played. Madonna adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and most recently her great-great granddaughters.
She is survived by her daughters Jane (Tom) Milcoff, Donna (Kevin) Ellis, and Joann (Dean) Kron; her grandchildren Polly Brooks, Mark Brooks, Tony (Michelle) Milcoff, Gene (friend Angie Johnson), Alisha Ellis (friend Blake Flemming), Alex (Laura) Kron, and Leah (Rob) Woodbury; her great-grandchildren Mikayla Wilson, Skila (Eli) Short, Dylon Secora, Genna Milcoff, Paige Johnson, Dominic Ellis, Nadia Gonzalez, Emersyn Secora, Mason Brooks, Eloise Kron, and Ethan Kron; and her great-great grandchildren Alani Banks and Delilah Short. She is also survived by her sister Margaret (Dick) Regenold and her sisters-in-law Sr. Arlene Einwalter, Lynnette Ellefson, Jan Wichman, Elaine Spencer, and Therese Heminger. 50 nieces and nephews also survive her.
Madonna's son, Gene Dale Einwalter, and Gene Einwalter, her husband of 58 years preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents Joseph and Huberta Wichman and her siblings John Wichman, Sr. Cephas Wichman, Dorothy (Leo) Mihm, Joseph (Maryann) Wichman, Eleanor (Jack) Burke, Delores (Don) Hubka, Edward Wichman, Robert Wichman, James Wichman, June (Amer) Chadwick, and Ethel (Adolf) Novak. She is also preceded in death by 10 nieces and nephews.
