With profound love and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Mae Carolyn Anderson announces her transition from this life on November 11, 2025. Born on May 19, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mae was the cherished daughter of the late Carl Thomas and Iva Dell (Bennett) Thomas.
Mae grew up in Indianapolis and received her early education at IPS 37, IPS 26, and the historic Crispus Attucks High School. At age seven, she became a lifelong member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, a spiritual home that nurtured her faith and remained a constant anchor throughout her life.
Mae's work ethic and dedication were evident in every chapter of her life. She held positions with Progress Laundry and RCA before venturing into entrepreneurship. Alongside her beloved husband, she owned and operated Anderson's Variety Store, a warm and welcoming fixture in the community.
On June 30, 1962, Mae married the love of her life, Therogaus Allen Anderson. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Sherrie Lynne Anderson. Though Therogaus preceded Mae in death in 2014, and Sherrie later joined him in eternal rest, the love they shared remained a guiding light in Mae's heart.
In addition to her husband, daughter, and parents, Mae was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Anne Rasdell and Cynthia La Mar Thomas.
Mae's legacy of grace, strength, and unwavering love lives on through her grandchildren, Shawnique LaShae Johnson and Alvino Fortess Jones; her brother, Richard (Ella) Holcomb; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Mae Carolyn Anderson was a woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and boundless generosity. Her life touched many, her laughter warmed countless hearts, and her wisdom shaped generations. Though she will be dearly missed, the imprint she leaves is everlasting.
"Well done, good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matthew 25:21)
The family thanks all who have expressed their love, prayers, and support during this time. May her spirit rest in eternal peace
