Mae Virginia Nelson, 94, of Duluth, peacefully passed away of natural causes, surrounded by her family, while listening to the Sound of Music soundtrack, on Friday October 3, 2025. She was born in Sandstone, MN on May 29, 1931, to Nels and Laura Lundorff. Mae was a graduate of the University of Minnesota LPN Program, and worked as an LPN at Abbott Northwestern, St. Barnabas, and St. Luke’s hospitals, and as a school nurse for the Duluth Public School District, ISD #709. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Altrusa, past member of the Norseman Federation, and the UMD Blue Line Club Auxiliary. Mae enjoyed baking, canning, and gardening.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Christian “Mike”, Irvin, Edward, Nels “Robert”, and Norman Lundorff, and a sister, Martha Wallin.

Mae is survived by her children Ginger (Thomas) Kerr of Rochester, MN, Greg Nelson of Duluth, and Nancy Nelson of Stillwater, MN, grandson Nolan Kerr of Rochester, MN, sister Laura McMichael of Pullman, WA, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. 1325 N. 45th Ave. East, Duluth, MN 55804. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
