Mae A. Rector, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Yakima, Washington, on August 1, 2025.
Mae was born on September 10, 1935, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Fred Shaddox and Dolly Bartley. At the age of 10, she and her family relocated to the Yakima Valley, where she spent the remainder of her life. Mae worked at Libby Cannery and later for Hansen Fruit as a sorter, where she remained until her retirement.
Seventy years ago, Mae met the love of her life, James L. Rector. They were married and made their home in Yakima, raising four children: John, Tina, James, and Frank.
Mae enjoyed cooking, gardening, and camping at the family cabin, but most of all, she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children John Brtches, Tina VanNieuwenhuiven, and Frank Rector; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and her sister, Stella Niles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Rector, and her son James "Jimmy" Rector.
Mae was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 10:00am at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home (201 N. 2nd St, Yakima, WA 98901), followed by a Graveside Service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 12:00pm.
