Mae Virginia (Buono) Robo, longtime Auburn resident, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 17, 2023 in the comfort of her home that she and her husband, Tom, built together in 1951. She had just celebrated her 102nd birthday last month.
Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas D. Robo, in 2001. She leaves her devoted sons: Ted Robo and his wife Dianne, of Southbridge, Phil Robo and his wife Jane, of Leicester, and Jim Robo and his wife Francine, of Hemet, CA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mae was the daughter of the late Luigi and Caroline (Roncone) Buono. She is also predeceased by her siblings: Raffaela Williams, Dr. Charles Buono, Jerry Buono, Joseph Buono, Josephine Buono, Armando Buono, Ann Hills, Jane Cavanaugh, Philomena (Tiny) Capurso, Mary McDonald, Nicholas DePari and Michelina Santora.
Mae was born in 1921 in Trinidad, Colorado, and was raised in Worcester, MA. She was a 1939 graduate of Commerce High School. She had an extensive career working in the Data Processing Department of the College of the Holy Cross, until her retirement.
She and Tom loved traveling, and especially loved visiting Europe and spending winters in Daytona Beach, FL. Mae was quite talented in the kitchen and loved to make Italian and Eastern Mediterranean cuisine for her family and friends and was also a talented seamstress in her free time.
Her family would like to extend their appreciation to Mae's compassionate caregivers, including Linda, Robie, Tina, Sophie, and especially her niece, Patty. The care and attentiveness of the VNA Hospice team was also very much appreciated by the Robo family.
In addition to the welcoming of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care (https://vnacare.org/donors).
Relatives and friends are invited to Mae's calling hours from 4 – 7 PM on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. Dear Ted and Phil,
Just came across this. Brings back such fond memories of Mae and Tom as a big part of our family. As a foursome with my parents they were forever jetting of to Europe together with "Up and Go" which they sure did! Even went several times on their own to Albania and Tito´s Yugoslavia with Tom
at the wheel. Attended many of our major life events too. Remember once seeing Tom on a flight to NYC when I worked for Chiquita Brands and he for Tabletalk. He was always supportive.
Carroll and Mae certainly had the longevity at 104 and 102. They are now all reunited.
God Bless them.
With deepest sympathy,
Michael and Joan Demoga
