Mae Hensley Woods

Mae Hensley Woods, a beloved matriarch, passed away on March 4, 2025, at Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She was 89 years old. Born on May 26, 1935, in Leslie County, Kentucky, Mae was a dedicated owner and operator of J.H. Hensley store, where she served her community with commitment and passion.

Throughout her life, Mae was known for her love of crafting, sewing, and engaging in word search puzzles. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Mae took immense pride in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherishing every moment with her loved ones. She is survived by her one son, James L. Woods (Christine), and her two daughters, Melissa Woods and Katherine Woods. Additionally, Mae leaves behind her son-in-law Ron Turner, as well as a remarkable legacy that includes nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, with two yet to be born, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mae was a proud member of the Wooton Presbyterian EPC in Wooton, Kentucky, where she actively participated in her community and shared her faith with others. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Hensley and Ollie Howard Hensley, her beloved husband, Delbert Woods, her two daughters, Belinda Woods Turner and Druella Woods, and three grandsons, Jerome Caldwell, Jason Caldwell, and Joshua Woods. Mae was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Edith, Easter, and Marie, as well as her three brothers, Seldon, Vellis, and Delvor Hensley.

Mae Hensley Woods will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, strong values, and unwavering love for her family. Her presence will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to live on through those she touched throughout her lifetime.

Funeral: Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY
