Mahamalea Marie Latterner, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in Shreveport, LA at the age of 87.
Born on November 14, 1937, in Shreveport to Alvin and LaVerne Shepherd Blizzard, Ms. Latterner attended Centenary College of Louisiana, where she was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She spent much of her life between Texas and Oklahoma, working passionately in law firms before returning to her hometown of Shreveport.
She had a smile that could light up any room and gave the biggest hugs. She loved cooking family meals, creating beautiful needlepoint gifts, cheering for LSU football and the Houston Astros, and never missed a visit to the beauty salon. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ms. Latterner was preceded in death by her husband, John “Bud” Latterner; her parents, Alvin E. Blizzard Jr. and LaVerne Shepherd Blizzard; sister Glenda Blizzard; brother Alvin Blizzard III; and her son Samuel Philip King.
She is survived by two sons Irving “Trey” King and David King; her sisters and their spouses Janet Lee Bullock of Georgetown, TX and Virginia and Phillip Cook of Ruston, LA. Grandchildren and spouses Brad King and Brooke Rhinewalt of Maiden, NC, Kelley DeVaun of Tampa, FL and Emilie and Matt Parker of Stonewall, LA. Great-grandchildren Kylie DeVaun, Tampa, FL, David King and Ava King, Maiden, NC, and Brooks Parker, Stonewall, LA. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their spouses.
John 11:25-26- “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing me will never die.”
