Major Alexander (Alex) Ryan Wingate, 37, of Cameron, NC, passed away on December 9, 2024. Born in Mesa, Arizona on October 29, 1987, Alex was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and deep love for those around him.
Alex was dedicated to a life of service. After graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Alex was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 2010. He spent 3 years as an Infantry officer before being selected to Psychological Operations, where he served proudly for another 11 years. His career was defined by his commitment to others, his generosity, and his ability to inspire those around him.
His commitment and service to others was most evident in his absolute devotion to his family. Alex loved and cherished his wife and four young children deeply, and his life revolved around them. Whether coaching kids’ soccer, battling it out in airsoft games, or diving into his beloved Warhammer (where he’d spend hours painting and strategizing), his family was at the center of everything he did. Alex excelled at making the people around him feel seen, supported, and appreciated.
Alex was a die-hard Arizona Cardinals fan (you can laugh with and/or at him about that) and a proud supporter of Ohio State football. Soccer was his lifelong sport, and he both played and coached it. His love for sports, especially team sports, ran deep, and he always believed in the power of teamwork and camaraderie.
What made Alex truly stand out was his positive impact on others. His energy was infectious, and he had a way of making everyone feel like they mattered. Whether in his personal life or professional career, he never stopped trying to make the world a little better. He will be deeply missed by everyone lucky enough to have known him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Special Operations Warrior Foundation (https://specialops.org), Believe With Me (https://believewithme.com), or any other organization that provides support to families of fallen service members.
Alex is survived by his wife, four young children, his parents, and his sister. His legacy of love, humor, and service will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the honor of being part of his life.
May we all live with even a fraction of the kindness, passion, and joy that Alex did every single day.
