Major Fritz Nelson III

Huntsville, AL resident Fritz Eugene Nelson III left his life on earth on March 2, 2026.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Ann 'Ginger' Nelson; his two daughters, Misty Suwarow and Linda Mohr; his son, Fritz Nelson IV; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel 'Danny' Nelson, who died in 2022.

Fritz was born on November 27, 1939, in St. Louis, MO. He was the son of Fritz Nelson Jr. and Vivara Outlaw Nelson. His family moved to California, Tennessee, and Washington State before settling in Harlowton, MT in 1949.

Fritz got his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Montana State University in 1963 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force.

He and Ginger married on Feb 15, 1964, at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA. Fritz later got a masters degree in electrical engineering at San Jose State University.

He retired from the United States Air Force in 1983 after a 20-year career in space and missile development and operations.

Fritz and his family then moved from the Washington D.C. area to Huntsville, AL where he worked as the manager of electrical design for the United Technologies subsidiary, USBI.

While Fritz lived in Huntsville for 46 years, his roots remained attached to Montana. He loved taking his children and grandchildren back to Montana and showing them the beauty of his beloved home.

Services will be held on March 13, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Central Christ Church, 407 Clinton Ave. in Huntsville, AL. There will be a visitation at 1:30 p.m. for those who wish to come, and there will be a military honor guard at the end of the service.
