Malcolm Long Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 15, 2024.
Malcolm Colin Long, fondly known as Colin to his family, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, February 11, 2024 at his residence on Daniel Drive in North Kingstown. Born in Liverpool, UK on April 29th, 1932, Malcolm's life was one of adventure, service, and dedication.
At the age of 18, Malcolm embarked on a journey of service by joining the British Royal Naval Reserve, where he served aboard the esteemed destroyer HMS Contest. Following his passion for engineering, he transitioned to the Royal Merchant Marine, spending four fulfilling years as an Engineering Officer, notably serving aboard the iconic vessels Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth of the Cunard Cruise Line.
In August 1956, Malcolm exchanged vows with Joyce Bayley, marking the beginning of a loving partnership. His dedication to his craft led him to Dunlop Rubber Company in Liverpool, where he worked as a mechanical engineer alongside his father and brother. In 1960, Malcolm volunteered for a four-month stint in Nigeria to aid Dunlop's endeavors, later returning with Joyce and their two sons, Keith P. and Martin C., in 1962. Their time in Nigeria saw the birth of their third son, Howard Spencer.
Upon their return to the UK in 1966, Malcolm sought new horizons, ultimately finding opportunity with Leesona Corporation in Warwick, RI. Emigrating with his family in April 1967, they settled in Warwick, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Malcolm's career continued to flourish, transitioning to Teknor Apex in Pawtucket, where he dedicated himself until his well-deserved retirement in 1997.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Malcolm cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He leaves behind three sons and six grandchildren, as well as three great grandchildren. Reunited in eternal dance, Malcolm joins his beloved wife, Joyce.
A private gathering of friends and family will be held at Malcolm's home, celebrating a life rich in love, service, and cherished memories. Malcolm's legacy of dedication and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
