Malvina Isabel Cuevas Sorensen of Pinewood Springs, Co passed away peacefully on the evening of October 29th with her son by her side.

She was born in Horconcitos, David, Panama on November 19th 1921, where she grew up with her sister Tulita. Her father Antonino raised cattle and Malvina became an accomplished horse woman in her younger years under the tutelage of her father. She studied at the University of Panama receiving her undergraduate degree in Spanish language and was a teacher for many years in her home country.

She came to Iowa City, Iowa in 1955 to study for her masters degree in Spanish language, receiving her degree from the University of Iowa. During this time she met Allen Sorensen and they were married. They had a son Anthony and began a life together that included moves to Moberly Missouri, where Malvina taught at Moberly Junior College and Waterloo Iowa where she taught at East High School. They eventually moved back to Iowa City to care for Mrs. Mary Sorensen. She worked at Goodwill as a supervisor for many years in Iowa City. Her husband Allen passed away in 1988.

In 1989, Malvina moved to Boulder, Colorado to be near her son Tony and his wife Barbara and her grandchildren Aaron and Bryon Sorensen. While in Boulder she worked with Emergency Family Assistance and spent time with her grandsons. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She moved to Pinewood Springs in 2004 where she loved to hang out with family, do outdoor gardening, tend to her many plants, read, do puzzles, play board games and watch her favorite westerns, tv shows and music videos. She was also fortunate to spend time with her great granddaughters Emily and Sophia and her grandson Aaron and his wife Kristin.

She was cared for by family and several hospice nurses and caregivers through Community Care at the time of her passing. We are forever indebted to the kind people of TRU for their help and guidance during a tough time.
