Mambu Luyindula's Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mambu Emmanuel Luyindula, also known as Honoré "Coco" Luyindula, a beloved husband, father, and cherished grandfather, who departed this life on September 6, 2025, in Covington, Georgia at the age of 80.

Early Life & Career

Mambu was born on December 28, 1944, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. From a young age, he was passionate about sports-especially soccer-and was equally devoted to reading and writing, the twin pillars that shaped his career. He rose to prominence as a dedicated sports journalist, leaving a mark through his vivid storytelling and insightful commentary.

He began his journalistic journey with esteemed publications like Le Progrès, under Raphaël Mpanu Mpanu, and Salongo, directed by Paul Bondo Nsama. Later, he joined Agence Zaïre Presse (AZAP), where he headed the Sports desk-an early division of what would become the ACP-and was eventually promoted to Chief Editor of the Desk Sports.

He covered major football competitions involving DR Congo's national team, the "Léopards," both across Africa and globally. He was celebrated as an outstanding observer, known for his rich analyses and special features focusing on the nuances off the field affairs of soccer.

Coco contributed to a broad array of media organizations, including Hebdo Zaïre, the sports weekly Masano, Agence Panafricaine d'Information (PANA), and periodicals like Le Climat Tempéré and La Cité Africaine. He was also recognized as a luminary among the Association des Journalistes Africains, alongside icons such as Lucien Tshimpumpu, Koko Kizubanata, Paul Basunga Nzinga, Christophe Matope, Pierre Célestin Kabala Mwana Mbuyi, and Siki Ntetani Mbemba.

Personal Life & Legacy

Beyond his professional achievements, Mambu was deeply cherished by his family. He shared a remarkable 52 years of marriage with his beloved wife Madeleine, a union that began when they met at her father's business. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Dada, Nancy, Olivier, and Sacre, passing on essential values of hard work, compassion, and integrity. He was also blessed with a son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, and twelve grandchildren.

Mambu had a zest for travel-both through his journalistic work and in his leisure time-and delighted in the company of young people, offering guidance, encouragement, and sharing wisdom generously. His warmth, love for good food and storytelling around the table created cherished memories that will live on.

Funeral Arrangements

A funeral service will be held at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel at 12PM followed by a graveside service at Peachtree Memorial Park on September 17, 2025, at 1PM. The family will welcome visitors at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM. A viewing is also scheduled for September 16, 2025, from 6 PM to 9PM.

---

Mambu Emmanuel Luyindula-Honoré "Coco"-was more than a journalist; he was a storyteller, mentor, and beloved family man whose legacy lives on in every life he touched. His insights enriched sports journalism in the DRC, and his compassionate spirit inspired all around him.

May he rest in peace, honored and remembered for a life well-lived, a career well-crafted, and a family well-loved.
