Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Newton, age 96, entered into rest on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by the Honorable Rep. Pastor Richie Yow with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Newton was born September 25, 1927 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Lonnie Carson and Carrie Hancock Sellers. She was a retired nursing assistant with over 28 years of service and a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. Mamie enjoyed working word search puzzles, embroidering, and making quilts for each of her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newton was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Newton; infant son, Kenny Gainey; brothers, David, Gerald, Lawson, Glenn, and Billy Sellers; and sister, Mary Katherine Meredith.
Survivors include her son, Don (Anna) Gainey of Glendale, AZ; daughter, Patsy (Greg) Fowler of Longs, SC; grandchildren, Lisa Gainey Conder of Glendale, AZ, Daryl (Jessica) Mumford of Old Hickory, TN, Crysti Mumford (Joey) Vaught of Longs, SC; great grandchildren, Angelina Conder, Austin Conder, Savannah Lee Mumford, Landon Riley (Cyla) Mumford, Britton Kayla Black of Longs, SC, and Haynes Granton Vaught of Longs, SC; great-great grandchild, Gradison Dupree Carter; sister, Margie (Len) Hart of Niangua, MO; special "Bonus Daughter & grandson," Teresa Welch and son, Clint Welch of Chesterfield, SC; special friend, James "Jim" Green of Murrells Inlet, SC; in addition to numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
