Mamie Pitts Obituary

Mamie Blough Pitts lived her 89 years with a heart full of love, faith, and quiet strength. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 20, 1936, to John Herbert and Lorene K. Blough, Mamie built her life around family, compassion, and service to others. She graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS on June 9, 1955. On September 28, 1956, she married the love of her life, Paul Pitts, and together they shared 52 wonderful years before his passing in 2008. Their marriage was one of deep devotion and laughter - a partnership that became the foundation of their family and the lives they touched.
Mamie's gentle spirit and giving heart were felt by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother to her sons Bo (Robin) Pitts and John (Kristine) Pitts, and the proud "Memaw" to her grandchildren Rachael Pitts and Erica Pitts, and great-grandchildren Carly, Ryan, Maggie, and Waylon. Her family was her joy - every visit, every holiday, every shared laugh was a blessing she treasured deeply.
Beyond her family, Mamie devoted much of her life to helping others. She worked for many years at the Mississippi Children's Society and volunteered at the Chemical Dependency Center in Jackson, offering kindness and understanding to those who needed it most. In 1976, Mamie and Paul opened their home - and their hearts - to foster children. Over the course of ten years, they cared for thirty-six children, treating each as one of their own. Family vacations, camping trips on the Pearl River, and simple days at home were all filled with love, laughter, and belonging for every child who entered their door.
She loved tending her flowers and gardening, playing Bridge and Rummikub with her friends at St. Catherine's Village, and enjoying her days surrounded by people she loved. Her kindness, steady faith, and unwavering love will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved family, her sisters Tubby (Tommy) Pickering and Bettye (Max, predeceased) Stewart, and many nieces and nephews who adored her. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul, sister Dot (Ivan) Cunningham, and her parents.
Mamie's legacy is one of love - love freely given, deeply felt, and beautifully lived. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit remains in every life she touched, in every child she nurtured, and in every heart that carries her memory forward.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS from 9:30am-11:30am with the Celebration of Life service to begin at 11:30. Interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Children's Home in Ridgeland, MS.
