Funeral Services for Mrs. Mamie Bass Smith will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at New Strangers' Home M. B. Church, 143 Sidway Street, Jackson, Mississippi. Her Final Resting Place will be at Ross Chapel Cemetery, Old Jackson Road, Gluckstadt, Mississippi.

Mamie Bass Smith, beloved wife of Andrew L. Smith, Sr., was born on July 10, 1932, to the late Ollie Amelia Bass and George Aldridge in Jackson, Mississippi. On February 18, 1950, she was united in Holy Matrimony with Andrew L. Smith, Sr., a marriage that endured for more than seventy-five years. To this union, four children were born: Barbara, Andrew Jr., Willie James, and Perjetta.

Mamie was a devoted member of New Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for more than sixty years. Her service included teaching primary children's Sunday School, singing in the choir, and participating in the Matron League, Pastor Aide Club, Kitchen Ministry, and Deaconess Board. She was honored to be recognized as the Mother of the Church. Though she came from humble beginnings, Mamie considered it a blessing to serve the Lord and to work diligently in her church until her health declined.

Professionally, Mamie dedicated more than forty years of service to the State of Mississippi. She began as a cook at the Whitfield Corrections Facility and later worked at the Mississippi Highway Patrol Headquarters in Jackson. After retiring, she continued her commitment to service by volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed participating in a women's line dancing group and attending exercise classes at Tougaloo College.

Mamie is fondly remembered as a loving family member, neighbor, and friend. No one ever left their home on Christmas Day without enjoying a meal, dessert, or leaving with a box of cookies or candy. She had a generous spirit and took joy in ensuring that others felt cared for and appreciated. She was also an active member of several women's community organizations and the Brinkley Community/Homeowner Association.

Her greatest achievement was providing her children with the opportunity to pursue a college education. Understanding the value of an education, she was determined to give them a strong foundation to ensure greater opportunities in life.

Mamie peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of ninety-three on Monday, November 24, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband of seventy-five years and her eldest daughter, who lovingly cared for her throughout her illness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Willie James; her granddaughter, Rahshawna Smith; and her brother, James.

Cherishing her memory are her husband, Andrew L. Smith, Sr.; her three children - Barbara Smith; Andrew Smith, Jr. (Linda) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and Perjetta K. Hightower (Willar) of Aiken, South Carolina; her brother, Julius Bass; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Bobby J. Hunter (Delores) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her, as she touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and grace.
