Manuel F. Sylvia Jr, 95, of New Bedford, passed away at Sippican Healthcare Center on Monday, August 25, 2025. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Manuel F Sylvia Sr and the late Olive (daSilva) Sylvia and husband to the late Beryl (Albiston) Sylvia.
Manuel worked for many years a mechanic starting out at Union Street Railway before becoming self employed. Upon retiring he turned to scrapping as a hobby to help keep busy. He was a keen pool player and could be found socializing with his many friends.
He is survived by his sons; Russell Sylvia and Daniel Sylvia; grandchildren, Myles Sylvia, Jessica Sylvia, Molly Sylvia, Melissa Sylvia, Matthew Sylvia, Paige Sylvia; a great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Manuel is preceded in death by his parents and wife; son, Thomas W Sylvia; sisters, Elsie May, Ruth Blackburn, Florence McClain, Doris Gaspar, Joyce Sylvia; brothers, Harold Sylvia, Joseph Sylvia, Donald Sylvia, James Sylvia, and William Sylvia.
In accordance with his wishes, Manuel will be cremated.
