Mara J. Boyce

Mara Janine Boyce, affectionately known as "Baldy", transitioned this world on Friday,
December 12, 2025 in Newark NJ. Mara was born on July 18 th, 1966 to the late, great,
David M. Boyce "Hooks" & Helen Joanne Boyce. She attended the Plainfield Public
School system, where she began her love of the game of basketball. She also enjoyed
shooting a game a pool or more. She loved eating & making to go plates at any, and all
functions, and dared someone to say something. Mara was a real fashionista, she wore
it well! She enjoyed matching her sneakers with her outfits, colors down to the "T". She
loved her family, especially Gammie's grands; they were her "Garden of Apples" in her
eye (the good one as she would say). She spoke her mind, whether you wanted to hear
it or not! Mara definitely had "them hands" and wouldn't mind reminding those, who
might have forgotten, that she can come out of retirement at any given moment. Mara
touched the lives of all that she came in contact with, to know her was absolutely, to
LOVE HER!
She was employed at ModivCare for the last 7+ years as a medical dispatcher, where
she was one of the top Employees on numerous occasions. She took great pride in
"Ministering" to those who would call in for Assistance. Mara was a member of Holy
Ground Outreach Ministries, where she continued & nourished a strong relationship with
God.
There was never a dull moment when in Mara's presence and that Laugh ! That
laugh was something "different", you could not help but to join in & laugh too! Mara
enjoyed a good game of Pity pat, followed by some house and a mean two step.
Mara was predeceased by Dad David "Hooks" Boyce & Brother Kevin "Malik, Hammer"
Boyce. She leaves to cherish her memory, Mom, Helen J. Boyce, Sisters Carmen &
Melinda Boyce; Daughters, Shacora & Yaasmyn Boyce; Sons, Jerel & Yasin Boyce; 11
grand kids (Samih, Saniyah, Aulani, Khyan, Aubri, Jailyn, Makhi, Yasin, Journi, Yasin Jr.
& Santana A.K.A. Jr. & her companion, Darrell Booker & a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins & friends.
Mara's life & legacy will live on!!!
