Marcella Ruth (Outlaw) Alston, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age of 65 in Mishawaka, IN. Born on March 26, 1960, in South Bend, IN, to the late Walter and Rosa Lee (Barnes) Outlaw, Marcella's warm spirit and boundless compassion touched everyone she met.
Marcella grew up in South Bend and was a proud graduate of South Bend Adams High School. In her professional life, she dedicated herself to the well-being of others, beginning her career as a nurse's aide, where she provided care and comfort to countless individuals. Her nurturing nature was felt not only by her patients but also by everyone in her personal life.
In addition to her passion for helping those in need, Marcella was a devout member of the Antioch Glory Church. Her faith was an essential part of her life; she served as a nurse at her church, offering medical guidance and support to her fellow congregants. Her commitment to her faith and community was unwavering and truly embodied the selflessness for which she was known.
Marcella's greatest joy was her family, and she took every opportunity to spend time with her beloved grandchildren: Lauren Alston, Stephen Byrd Jr., Javion Perry, Landon Alston, Aiden Alston, Stephanie Byrd, Kendall Alston, Micah Byrd, Jamir Perry, and Jalen Byrd. They brought immense happiness and laughter to her life, and she cherished every moment with them. Her legacy of love and care is reflected in the strong family ties she helped foster.

Marcella leaves behind a family who adored her, including her daughter, Danielle Alston-Ivory; sons, Stephen Byrd and Albert Alston; brother, Rev. Joseph Gause; sisters, Sandra Outlaw, Yvonne Hoffman, and Katherine Byrd-McKensie. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Emma Jean Gause, Mildred Outlaw, Melvin Outlaw, and Walter Outlaw Jr., with whom she now joins in eternal peace.

A private burial will take place at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel is honored to be assisting the family with final arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be donated in Marcella's name to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1533 W. Ewing Ave. South Bend, IN 46613.
