Brooke N. (Smith) Shook, a loving wife, cherished mother, devoted nurse, and friend to all who knew her, passed away peacefully in Mishawaka, IN, on November 8th, 2025, at the age of 44.
Born on August 3rd, 1981, in Mishawaka, IN, to proud parents Ben and Cheryl (Claeys) Smith, Brooke was a spark of joy in the lives of those she touched. A 2000 graduate of Mishawaka High School, she went on to pursue her passion for caring for people, graduating with a degree in nursing.
Brooke's compassion and dedication to her work were evident in her over 16 years of service as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was not only a skilled nurse but also a beacon of hope and comfort to many patients and families during their most challenging times.
On June 24th, 2005, Brooke married the love of her life, David Shook, at Kamm's Island Park in Mishawaka. Their union was blessed with six beautiful children: Cali, Lani, Maisi, Leighton, Crew, and Ledger Shook. Brooke's family was the center of her universe. She considered motherhood her greatest achievement and found immense joy in every moment she spent with her beloved children.
Brooke loved traveling and exploring new places with her family. She was a foodie through and through; she loved to cook for her family and friends. A couple of times, she put her six kids and husband in the car for three hours just to turn back after they ate at one of her favorite Mexican restaurants, Chuy's. Camping trips were a family tradition, where Brooke enjoyed bike rides, hikes in the middle of nowhere, and cooking amazing meals outside with Cali.
Her zest for life, her passion for caring, and her love for her family are the kinds of things that endeared her to all who knew her. Brooke possessed a servant's heart, and she was most in her "zone" while hosting a party, preparing a delicious meal, or simply sharing with friends. She was the heartbeat of every party, ensuring every guest felt welcomed and entertained. She loved going shopping with her three daughters and finding the best deals on the cutest items.
Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her in every aspect of her life and inspiring those around her. She poured her faith into her family, friends, and strangers. Reading the Bible and sitting at the table on Sundays for family night was a tradition Brooke loved.
Her memory lives on through her loving family: husband, David; their adored children, Cali, Lani, Maisi, Leighton, Crew, and Ledger; her caring parents, Ben and Cheryl; her sister, Linzy (Chris) Herron; and brother, Ben (Krissi) Smith. Each family member, bound together by the love of a truly remarkable woman, will carry Brooke's legacy forward in their hearts.
A time to visit with the family will be held on Thursday, November 13th, from 4–8 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN 46545. A service will take place on Friday, November 14th, at 11 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior at The Vineyard Church, 16219 Jackson Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
