Marcella Carroll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service - Storey Chapel on Mar. 2, 2026.
Surrounded by her beloved family, Marcella Ann Carroll, 96, passed away on February 28, 2026, at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living, her home for the past three years.

Marcella was born on January 31, 1930, in Marion, Indiana, to Sam and Viora Good. She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Carroll, on February 9, 1950. They enjoyed traveling to Florida and working on "her" house projects together. Bob preceded her in death on October 24, 2010.

A proud mother of five sons-Buck, Dan, Doug, Rick, and James-and two daughters, Sandy and Michele, Marcella ran a tight ship, and her children knew better than to try to pull one over on her. She loved them dearly and always planned memorable birthdays and holidays.

Marcella loved planning parties and having "company"; her door was always open to anyone who stopped by. She and Bob hosted their annual Chili Supper at their home on Old Kokomo Road during James Dean Weekend, often welcoming 80 or more guests. Whether on Garthwaite Road or Main Street in Jonesboro, there was always a cookout, pool party, or euchre game underway. She especially looked forward to hosting the annual family Christmas party and her New Year's Eve poker game-so long as she could win.

Marcella began her career at Marsh Supermarkets as a cashier at the old Marsh #29 in Marion, later moving to the new Marsh South #32, where she became General Merchandise Manager. She retired on April 29, 1992, after 35 years. She won several company-wide vendor display contests, shared many funny stories, and formed lifelong friendships.

Marcella loved working outdoors, planting flowers, shrubs, and trees, decorating her home for every season, and watching the finches outside her window.

Survivors include, sons Dan (Brenda) Robinson, Marion; Doug (Sheila) Carroll, Alpine, AR; Rick (Debby) Carroll, Marion; daughter Michele (Jeff) Soultz, Carmel; brother, Roy (Punk) Good, Harrison, TN; son-in-law, Don Stanton, Gas City; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Carroll, Jonesboro; sisters-in-law, Barbara Good and Wanda Good, both of Marion; Shirley Nash-Roe, Fairmount; brothers-in-law, Jerry Morris and Fred Brankle, Marion; 14 grandchildren; Austin (Dalinda) Robinson, Celina (Mark) Robinson, Trina (Marcus) Hardy, Danny (Tara) Robinson, Kristi (Levi) Holloway, Jeremy Carroll, Erica (Robert) Doster, Christian (Ali) Carroll, Stacy (Jon) Hosier, Cory (Ashley) Carroll, Sam (Kayla) Stanton, Casey Cason, Megan Soultz, and Taylor (Brandon) Perkins; 23 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren, several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her coffee-drinking friends who visited her every week, Judy Voland, Brenda Murphy, and Carolyn Ballinger; and her beloved and equally sassy 14 year old dog, Buffy.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob; father and mother, Sam and Viora Good; sons, Earl (Buck) Robinson, James Carroll; daughter, Sandy Stanton; granddaughter, Cortney Soultz; great-grandson, Tristen Stanton, brothers, Sam Good, Dick Good, Mick Good, and Larry Good; sisters, Juanita Miller and Margie Morris.

She is reunited now with Bob, and we can imagine the two of them together again-her still running the show, of course.

The family would like to thank Stillwater Hospice for their care and compassion and the Assisted Living Staff at Colonial Oaks for their wonderful love, care and friendship.

Visitation will be at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 400 East Main Street, Gas City, IN on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with the services immediately following at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Mansbarger and Rev. Robert Streeter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion.

Memorials may be made to Grace Community Church, 1810 East Bradford Pike, Marion, IN 46952, where Marcella enjoyed many Sunday services and Cowboy Church, or to your local chapter of the American Red Cross, who provided tremendous assistance to Bob, Marcella, and their children when their home was destroyed during the Palm Sunday tornado in 1965.
