Marcella Jean Rosen, 95, of Loudonville, Ohio passed away quietly at University Samaritan on August 20, 2025 after a short illness. Marcella was the daughter of the late William and Lula Mae (Feasel) Perry, Sr., born in Condit, Ohio. She was the fifth of seven siblings, growing up on various farms during the Depression after her father lost both his creamery job and the family home in Sunbury to foreclosure in the crash of 1929.

Eventually, the family settled in Mt. Vernon, where in 1946, Marcella would meet the love of her life, Robert Rosen, on a blind date. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married that year by the Rev. Hugh Wayt in the parsonage of the Mount Vernon Methodist Church. Five years later, they started their family with the arrival of the first of three daughters. Despite both their parents' fears, they were too young; the marriage lasted over 71 years until Robert's death.

With their marriage starting from very humble beginnings, they struggled during the 1950s to get ahead. Yet, they created such a loving home and protective environment for their children that we never understood how modest we lived compared to others. Walking into our mother's interior home, you found always a welcoming environment and a cozy country cottage setting.

Marcella was a great cook, inherited from her Pennsylvania Dutch mother. The smells in the house during the holiday season were overwhelming with cookies, peanut brittle, taffy, and buckeyes all from scratch. Our mother's career would, in fact, focus on her cooking skills. At one early point, she was employed by the Perrysville Pottery in their cafeteria. She also would spend many years as a short-order cook for the Dairy Delights in Loudonville and Perrysville. Her final job would be as head cook of the Mohican Youth Camp.

Our mother enjoyed writing poetry, all things Elvis, traveling, and doing community volunteer work after she and Dad retired. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family, shopping, and going out to eat with her daughters.

Marcella was a kind and sensitive woman of strength she leaves as a legacy to her three daughters. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Loudonville, where she volunteered over the years as a parent.

At this time, the family would like to thank family friends, Bertha Miller and Mark Young, whose added support helped us keep our mother living independently at her beloved home until very recently.

Marcella is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Rosen Wood of Sun City Center, Florida, Linda Ross of Loudonville and Lisa (Jerry) Oxender of Nova, Ohio. She is also survived by her grandsons, Trevor (Shirley) Ross of Marblehead, Ohio, Caleb Ross of Loudonville, and step granddaughter, Tina (Mark) Alt of Lucas, and three great granddaughters who will miss their "GG" along with five step great grandchildren. Marcella is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rosen and her parents, William and Lula (Feasel) Perry, her son in laws, Dr. William Wood and Brad Ross and her siblings: Bertha (Lester) Smith, Hazel (Dewey) Spurling, Julia (Louis) Beyers, Frank (Wilma) Perry, William (Lela) Perry, Jr., Paul (Mary Ann) Perry along with several nieces and nephews.

The Rosen family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10 – 11 a.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home-Lindsey Chapel, Loudonville, with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow Loudonville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at the funeral home to Loudonville Baptist Church.
