Marcia Damaris Hildreth of La Plata, MD, peacefully passed away on March 6, 2025 surrounded by her children. Born exactly 87 years prior on March 6, 1938 to Niki Philadelphus and Leigh Zollie James, in Washington, DC, she was the oldest of 3 children.
On the surface very proper yet warm, she was a graceful mixture of love, kindness, strength and steely resolve. She married her beloved husband Joe on June 25, 1954. They moved from Washington, DC to La Plata, MD as their family grew for space to roam and raise animals. Her children became the center of her life, balancing a career in Real Estate while also managing to be involved in the church and volunteering in the classrooms. As her children grew, she applied that same love and dedication and that same mixture of family, service and faith to her grandchildren. Creative and incredibly talented at a sewing machine there wasn't an art or science project that was ordinary and quality, handmade drapes hung in their home. An avid reader and lover of history she traveled to every corner of the continent through the pages of books, preferring non-fiction because "the stories are more interesting than things people can make up." As the pillar and planner of the family she ensured trips were taken and her home was the gathering place where meals were shared and memories made. A two-time survivor of breast cancer, she didn't give up on anything easily, and somehow went about everything with poise and style. A woman who managed to do it all, making it look effortless and natural.
There are no words for how much she will be missed, but she lives on through her family, the example she set for her children and grandchildren, the warmth and unconditional love that we are so fortunate to know and will continue to pass down.
Marcia is predeceased by her Husband Robert, their eldest son Joseph Anthony Hildreth and her sister Zoe McNair. She is survived by her brother Ian James (Barbara), daughters Vickie Johnson (Wayne) and Dena Langley (Donald) and son Gary Hildreth, grandchildren Wayne Johnson, Kerry Carter (Brett), Stacie Roy (Mark), Trinity Ruggio (Nick), Damian Langley (Tyeisha), Brandy Herman and Dustin Langley (Brandi) as well as 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with one on the way.
A visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph Way in Pomfret, MD on 19 March 2025 from 10am until time of Funeral Mass at 11am.
Interment to follow in St Joseph's Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
A celebration of Marcia's life will continue at the Moose Lodge in White Plains, MD.
