Marcille Mardella (Fass) Bohling was born on the family farm south of Johnson on May 23, 1927 to Martin and Lydia (Behrends) Fass. Marcille was baptized on June 14, 1927 at Stone Church by Reverend Kunzendorf. She was confirmed November 30, 1941 by Reverend Fruehling at Martin Luther Church. Marcille attended Febing School District 42, and she attended High School in Johnson where she graduated in 1945. Marcille received a Teaching Certificate in 1946 from Peru State College and taught elementary school 2 years.
On June 5, 1947 she married Alvin Bohling at Martin Luther Church. The couple was blessed with 3 children – Meredith, Darwin and Ramona.
After farming for 5 years, the family moved to Johnson. Marcille worked at Bohling Grocery Store for 15 years, and a few years at the Sewing Factory in Auburn. Marcille retired in 1994 after 25 years driving a Johnson Brock School Bus. Marcille was active in Martin Luther Church teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Junior Lutherans, singing in and directing the Choir, Quilt Chairwoman, as well as quilt and banner maker.
Marcille was an American Legion Auxiliary Member for 60+ years where she held many offices. She delivered the Johnson Rag for 47 years. Marcille loved growing house plants and gardening. She often had 100 plants in the house in the winter. Marcille was known as the “Plant Lady” for the Annual Yard Sale in Johnson.
Marcille died of natural causes at Jefferson Care Center in Lee’s Summit, MO on May 16, 2025. Her parents, husband and son, Darwin, preceded her in death.
Those left to mourn her passing are daughters and son-in-law Meredith Jean and Robert Boone of Lee’s Summit, MO; Ramona Kay Lightfoot of Oceanside, CA; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister Eldeen Hanke and husband Dale Hanke of Camdenton, MO; sister-in-law Joan Bohling of Johnson; many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be Friday, May 23, 11:00 a.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 5:00 to 7:00.
