Marcos Rivera Sanchez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2024, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pneumonia. Born on November 29, 1947, in Alton, Texas, to Rosa Compos Rivera and Eliseo T. Sanchez, Marcos was the youngest of 13 children. Growing up in a large family, Marcos was no stranger to hard work and resilience. In 1968, he moved to Dill City, Oklahoma, to live with his brother Lupe, a move that would change his life forever. It was there that he met the love of his life, Helen Neeley. The two quickly fell in love and married on February 4, 1969, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, dedication, and family. Marcos was known for his tireless work ethic, always giving 100% to every task he undertook. Over the years, he worked in various fields, including sheering sheep, hauling hay, and chopping cotton, though his true passion lay in landscaping. Outside of work, Marcos found joy in the simple things in life -- fishing, camping, crafting beadwork, and, above all, spending time with his family. Whether gathered for a meal or a weekend outdoors, he cherished every moment with his loved ones.
Marcos is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Helen Sanchez, and their three children: Marcos Sanchez Jr., Anita Treat, and David Sanchez. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the hearts of his 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, along with countless nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eliseo Sanchez and Rosa Sanchez, and all of his 12 siblings, who no doubt welcomed him into their arms once again. Marcos will be missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the stories, lessons, and love he leaves behind.
