Marcus Neal Fincher was born on a Van Zandt County farm between Colfax and Oakland. With the exception of nine years as a young man, he resided there his entire life. Though he made his home in Van Zandt County, he traveled extensively throughout North America, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific.
Marcus was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the churches in Van and Oakland. He attended Van schools and was a proud member of the Van High School Band and the Class of 1958. He went on to join the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Third Class Petty Officer. He later spent over 35 years as a proud member of UAW Local 276 while working as a machinist for Bell Helicopter. He also dedicated as many years to serving as a Methodist Sunday School teacher.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Iva Nell Fincher (née Martin), and his beloved wife, Judy Fincher (née Sneed). He met Judy while home on leave from the Navy in 1963, and they married in 1964. They were together for nearly 60 years until her passing in 2023.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Fincher of Starkville, Mississippi, and Matthew Fincher of Canton; granddaughters Haley Barron and her husband, Jose, and Mackenzie Leath and her husband, Cameron; grandsons William Fincher and Nate Fincher; and great-granddaughters Ivy Barron and Aurora Leath.
A memorial service honoring Marcus will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, at Connections Church in Van, Texas. The address is 326 W. Main St., Van, TX 75790. All family and friends are invited to attend
