Marcus Oehmke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Day Macz Funeral Home - Sandoval on Mar. 21, 2022.
Marcus K. Oehmke, 54, of Sandoval passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. He was born on July 17, 1967, the son of Robert and Marilyn (Smith) Oehmke in Centralia. He married the love of his life and best friend, Cora Lewis on September 14, 1994, in Lebanon, Missouri and she survives him in Sandoval.
Along with his beloved wife of 27 years, survivors that will remember Marc's shy, mischievous smile include his children Chip and Kyra, Christina and Shawn, and Cory; grandchildren Liam, Kybrick, Kacie, Marisa, Julien, Lydia, Lexia, Temprence, and Tinsley; great-grandchild Everly; and siblings Chris, Mitch, Doug, Theresa, Sarah, and Fred; nieces and nephews Kyle, Katie, Connor, Lyndi, Brian and Stacey, and Tresa.
Marc was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marilyn Oehmke; and his brother Gregory Oehmke
Marc served his country with honor for 9 years with the United States National Guard, offering his assistance in Honduras and helping during the flood of 1993 in Alton, Illinois. He was a loyal volunteer for the Sandoval Fire Department and EMT Service. He also worked for the Sandoval Fire Department and EMT Service as their bookkeeper for several years before starting his own construction company with his good friend Ray Resch. He followed in his father's footsteps becoming the Sandoval Township property assessor. In 2005 Marc became the co-founder of Mid-America Jumpers with his daughter Christina. He called Sandoval his home all his life and was always finding ways to give back to his community. He was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a member of the church's finance committee. Marc served as a Third Degree Trustee, Fourth Degree Captain, and District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus, where he had formerly served as Deputy Grand Knight and Third Degree Deputy. He was a hard worker, a skilled carpenter and handyman that so many grateful homeowners were able to call on in their time of need. He was generous with his time to a fault, ready to lend a hand to everyone. Marc had an easy, friendly way, never met a stranger, and was extremely loyal to his family and friends. He was the one you were glad to have on your side, for he would stand up and fight for those he loved. He loved a healthy discussion about politics and often 'missed the point' you were trying to make. He loved spending time with his sister Theresa and her husband Mark, and his niece, Tresa. Marc and Cora were blessed to experience many wonderful travel destinations together. Some of their highlights included fishing and camping trips to Arkansas, snowmobiling in Montana, camping at Gulf Shores and experiencing the beauty of Hawaii and Alaska. They recently made amazing memories on a road trip to Florida, hitting all the beaches and visiting Daytona International Speedway, followed up with a cruise in the Eastern Caribbean. When Marc wasn't traveling or working, he could be found caring for his dogs and chickens that he loved. To know Marc was to be treated like family, he was always available, dependable in any circumstance, a caring listener, an all-around great guy and had such a contagious laugh. He will be missed deeply for his life touched so many people, who will do their due diligence to shine Marc's light of kindness and friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval with Rev. Fr. Steven Pautler officiating. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Sandoval with military graveside rites by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and the Centralia VFW Post 2055. Friends are welcome to a visitation time Wednesday, March 23 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval. Memorials may be made in Marc's honor to the Sandoval Knights of the Columbus.
