Marcus Josul Patterson, Sr. was born on October 23, 1974, in Evansville, Indiana. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and made unforgettable memories that he cherished throughout his life.
An enthusiastic learner, Marcus received his education through the El Paso County Texas and Evansville Vanderburgh County School Corporations. He attended both Bosse and Harrison High School, where he actively participated in the football and wrestling teams, showcasing his passion for both sports and camaraderie. Marcus was a member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church where he participated in youth activities and was active with the Kentucky Region Youth & Young Adult Dept. At the young age of 16, Marcus discovered his talent for cutting hair—a skill he carried on with pride, believed to have been passed down from his great-grandfather, affectionately known as “Mac the Barber.” Even in the days leading up to his passing, Marcus continued to refine this craft, dedicating Sunday afternoons to cutting the hair of his friends and family, a testament to his generosity and love for those closest to him.
After graduating high school, Marcus embarked on a journey of hard work, initially as a logger and pursuing various jobs until he became a proud member of UA Local 136 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. This union allowed him to thrive as a BTJ Steam Fitter, and he achieved a significant milestone in his life when he earned his plumber's license. In 2022, he graduated from IVY Tech College with an associate’s degree, a testament to his dedication and perseverance. Marcus would often share his enthusiasm about his projects and accomplishments with those around him.
A lover of the great outdoors, Marcus cherished spending time with his family and friends, whether on land or water. He found joy in cooking, making him a self-proclaimed chef both in the kitchen and at the grill or smoker. Known for his strong opinions, he was also knowledgeable about politics and had a passion for discussing important life issues. One of his cherished sayings to his children was to “make sure you have the proper tools in your toolbox,” reflecting his desire to prepare them for life’s challenges. Marcus took pride in providing guidance and advice, especially to his nephew Tracy Johnson, Jr. and his little cousin Duran Miller.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Harmonie Anise Patterson; grandmothers Carolyn Sue McFarland Hayes, Ethel Patterson, and Gillie McFarland; grandfathers Ewitt McFarland and Robert Brooks; auntie; Nancy Jane McFarland; uncles, Johnny Birchett, William Hayes, Jr., Craig Hayes, and Byron Keith Patterson.
Marcus leaves behind a loving family who will carry on his legacy, including his children Alexis Patterson, Kyle Brown, Aiesha Patterson, MarCavion Madison, Victor Jordan, Shekhinah Patterson, Marcus Josul Patterson, Jr., Kaden and Kaelynn Reed, and Xavier Patterson.
