Margaret Elizabeth Clarke peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her family on January 21, 2024. She was born in Norfolk County, Virginia on November 30,1945. She was one of six children and was raised by her loving parents, Eddie Purdie and Leona Purdie Green. Margaret lived in Agawam, Massachusetts and was a member of the Church of Christ in Chicopee, Massachusetts since 2016.
Margaret received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Virginia State College and her Master of Social Work Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Furthermore, she attended Bryn Mawr College where she completed the course requirement for her Ph.D. Degree in Social Work.
Margaret worked as a public school teacher, real estate agent, notary republic, job/marriage/family counselor, social worker, and psychotherapist.
Her spare time interests included: creative writing, public speaking and charitable activities. Margaret published and wrote a book of poetry called Pensive Feelings in 1979. The drawings were illustrated by her daughter, Shaune Clarke and son, Kris Clarke. The cover design was created by her former spouse, Robert Clarke, Jr.
Margaret was preceded by her parents, Eddie Purdie and Leona Purdie Green, her sister Christa Bell Purdie Evans, and her two brothers Henry Purdie and Lee Purdie.
Margaret is survived by one sister Evelyn Purdie Lee, one brother Raymond Purdie and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Margarets' children Kris (Sandy) Clarke, Shaune Clarke, Chekesha (Janava) Lockett and six grandchildren will always cherish the memories they shared with their mom.
