Whitinsville--Margaret Spencer Codner, died at home with loved ones by her side, Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Peggy leaves her beloved husband of 59 years, J. Stephen Codner, 3 sons: Peter and his wife Jodi, of Auburn; Kevin and his wife Christine, of Lakeville, MN; Tristan and his wife Emily, of Millbury; 6 grandchildren: Sarah, Ryan, Abigail, Nicholas, Penelope and Vivienne; a great granddaughter, Cordelia; her sister Sheila Dombrowik, of Lunenburg; and 4 nephews and 1 niece.
Peggy was born in New Britain, CT, March 24, 1943, to the late Donald and Edna (Hall) Spencer. She graduated from Newington High School in 1961 and Framingham State College in 1985, with a degree in clothing design. She had lived in Whitinsville since 1979, moving from Pembroke, PA.
At the age of 13, Peggy had her first of many library jobs at the Lucy Robbins Wells Library in Newington, CT, where she worked as a page. She continued working part time throughout high school, and after moving to Whitinsville she worked as a children's librarian providing story hour and summer reading programs at the Whitinsville Social Library, the Simon Fairfield Public Library, in East Douglas, and the Forbush Memorial Library, in Westminster, MA.
Memorial Calling Hours will be Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Carr Funeral Home, from 2-4PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church, Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, at 11AM, Monday, August 21. Please access the church parking lot from Church St., Whitinsville. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church, 61 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, MA 01588.
