Margaret Pearl Rice Junke Margaret Pearl Rice Junke, 92, of Charlottesville, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013, at The Laurels. She was born on February 2, 1921, in Quebec, Montreal, Canada, the daughter of the late Beulah Bennett Rice and John Alfred Ernest Rice. She was also predeceased by her husband, Victor George Junke, whom she married on December 9, 1944; her granddaughter, Dinessa Washington; and brothers, Raymond, Cecil and Lloyd Rice. Mrs. Junke graduated from Shaw's Business College and spent her working career as an administrative assistant in state government. She retired in 1980 from the Office of Mental Health of the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene after fifteen years of service as secretary to the director and office supervisor. She was an avid golfer and loved to go to the Miller Center Forums. Mrs. Junke was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She loved to volunteer and did stints with The American Red Cross, The Democratic Party as well as for Veterans causes. Survivors include her two children, Neil Junke of New York and Nadine Washington and her husband, Lester, of Clarksville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Douglas Rice and his wife, Evelyn; and a sister, Norma Houghton and her husband, Ray. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013, in the Hill and Wood Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Liz Forney officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. Her family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the funeral home. Friends may send condolences to her family at www.hillandwood.com.

I did not personally know Mrs. Junke, but she had to be a wonderful lady because she raised such a loving daughter, Nadine. Nadine and Lester, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. I smile thinking of Dinessa giving her grandma big hugs and smiles! Much love to you and your family!
