Margaret Lou Ledford Jones, 82, went to her eternal home on May 26, 2025. She was born on September 20, 1942, in Haywood County to the late William Ledford and Alice Rich Ledford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Jones; stepdaughter, Angie Penley; sisters, Viola Sandford and Genevee Conard; and brother, Junior Ledford
Margaret, a lifelong resident of Haywood County, leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion. For 32 years, she faithfully worked at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center, where she cared for others with the same warmth and compassion she showed to everyone. Her heart for helping others was evident in all she did.
Margaret had a deep love for the outdoors and took great pride in working in her yard. She was a tireless worker who believed in putting effort and care into everything she did-whether it was tending to her flowers or helping a neighbor in need. A devoted member of Hyatt Creek Freewill Baptist Church, she was deeply rooted in faith and community. Above all, Margaret was family-oriented-always putting loved ones first and offering a steady presence full of kindness, strength, and grace.
She is survived by her stepson, Larry Jones (Crystal); brothers, Ray Ledford (Mary) and Raymond S. Ledford (Carolyn); sister, Mary Mull; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Margaret's memory may consider making a contribution to Smoky Mountain Cremations & Funeral Service to assist the family with final expenses.
