Bodie (Kenneth Hull) McCoy, 76, peacefully passed away on September 27, 2025.
Born on February 17, 1949, in San Diego, California, Bodie was the beloved son of the late Kenneth Carr and Judy Schilling McCoy. Though his legal name was Kenneth Hull McCoy, to those who knew and loved him, he was simply "Bodie."
He is now reunited with his parents, his sister, Kathy McCoy-Palacio (and her husband, Juan), and his grandmothers, Alice (and her husband, William) and Julia (and her husband, Andrew), all of whom preceded him in death.
A man of remarkable gifts and an unwavering spirit, Bodie had an enduring love for the ocean. Growing up surfing, he carried that passion into adulthood, embracing what he called "Surfing Love"-a journey of self-discovery and connection with the world around him. This quest for peace and freedom through surfing the realms of love was a central theme that he shared with those closest to him. He found great joy in long walks, but above all, he cherished moments spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren-times filled with laughter, connection, and love.
Bodie was also a gifted storyteller. He authored four books, and his nearly completed autobiography will soon be published, offering readers a glimpse into his remarkable life and the depths of his heart. His passion for helping others was evident in every part of his life-whether through his work or simply lending a listening ear. Bodie viewed every challenge as an opportunity to give, guide, and grow. His kindness was legendary, described by many as a man of extraordinary love, wisdom, and good humor.
A fun-loving man, one of Bodie's trademarks was his unabashed love for butter!
In his work, Bodie was guided by his deep faith in God's love. He developed a self-help counseling system called "Oracle of the Heart," a tool that will live on through the internet. Using dice or random selectors, the system helps individuals navigate their personal challenges, with answers often appearing with uncanny accuracy. Bodie believed that every question, no matter how big or small, was answered by God, and he carried that faith into every decision. "If in doubt, roll the die," he would often say, trusting in divine guidance.
Proverbs 16:33 – "The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD."
Bodie is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Barbara McCoy, along with their children: Tammy Chessell, Asa McCoy (Alisha), Tiffany Messer (Jeremy), Ampara McCoy, Jessica McCoy (Austin), Gabrielle Miller (Mike), Shawn McCoy (Natasha), and Azza McCoy. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Leticia (Jaylin), Dominic, Ashton, Jordan, Mikaela (Brandon), Dylan, Elijah, Michelle, Jasmyn (Michael), Tristin, Katylou, Abigail, Ava, Gianna, Maverick, Niem, Collin, and Kasper, and his great-grandchildren: Oliver, Saske, Draco, Ava, Asher, Charlie Rae, Kade, Hudson, and Ampara Mabel Anne Rose. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2 more little ones joining the family.
Bodie's legacy of love, faith, and unique perceptions will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, he will never be forgotten.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
