Margaret Mary (McGillicuddy) "Peggy" MacKenzie, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at The Chapel Hill in Cumberland, Rhode Island, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 18, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Connolly) McGillicuddy. Peggy was raised in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston, where she graduated from Mission High School with the Class of 1962. As a young woman, Peggy kept her social calendar full, looking forward to gathering with her friends for a night of bowling or dancing.

Peggy lived in Walpole, where she raised her five children, David, Laura, Lisa, Lynn, and Christopher. She took great pride in her role as a Mom, raising and caring for her young family. Once settled in Walpole, Peggy found her spiritual home at Saint Mary's Church, attending Mass every Sunday, truly embracing her faith.

As Peggy's children grew up, she found work in several office positions before discovering her calling to work with children. In the early 2000s, Peggy accepted the position of director of the after-school program at the Old Post Road Elementary School in East Walpole. She loved her role, providing fun and enrichment for the children entrusted to her care, working well into her seventies before retiring.

Throughout her life, Peggy remained proud of her Irish heritage. As the daughter of Irish immigrants, she found any reason to wear green or celebrate the traditional holidays of Ireland. More recently, she enjoyed watching re-runs of game shows from the 1970s, appreciating the nostalgia that they brought her. More than anything, Peggy was devoted to her family, treasuring the moments she spent with those she loved. She was delighted at the birth of her grandchildren, attending all their events and supporting them in all endeavors. Peggy's love knew no bounds and she looked forward to spending time with her siblings and her nieces and nephews, who affectionately knew her as Auntie Peggy.

Loving mother of Laura M. Cappabianca and her husband, John, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Lisa A. Hayes and her husband, William, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Lynn E. Sudduth and her husband, Scott, of Norton, Christopher M. MacKenzie and his wife, Nancy, of Walpole, and the late David F. MacKenzie and his surviving wife, Trina, of Foxborough.

Cherished grandmother of Matthew MacKenzie, Michael MacKenzie, Kevin O'Donnell and his wife, Victoria, Sean O'Donnell and his wife, Yallo, Michael Hayes, Christopher Hayes and his wife, Michaela, Jack Hayes, Emma Sudduth, Ryan Sudduth, Christopher MacKenzie, Adam MacKenzie, and Noah MacKenzie.

Sister of Ann Melia of West Roxbury and Eileen Dyson of West Roxbury, the late Joseph McGillicuddy, the late Rose Hanafin, and the late John McGillicuddy.

Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Peggy's visitation on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 21st, 2025, at 10:00 am at Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole. Interment will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
