Margaret Dorato Turner Magnan, age 96, born on March 24, 1929, in Buncombe County, passed away peacefully on October 4 2025, at Swannanoa Valley Health and Rehabilitation. She lived a rich and fulfilling life that was characterized by her deep love for family and her commitment to serving others.
Margaret, lovingly known as Nanny, was known for her active spirit and infectious enthusiasm for life. She cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, providing a loving and supportive presence in their lives. In her earlier years, she found joy in cooking and fishing, activities that brought her great happiness and allowed her to share delightful moments with those she loved.
A devoted member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church, Margaret's faith was an integral part of her life, shaping her character and guiding her actions. She exemplified kindness and generosity, always seeking opportunities to help those around her.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Pam Chapman (Tommy); her sister-in-law, Mary Dorato; and her four cherished grandchildren: Keith Boyd Chapman (Alicia), Michelle "Shellie" Reese (Ed), Joseph "Brian" Chapman, and Amber Cook (Bryan). She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Dereck, Kyle, Clayton, Braydin, Karsyn, Ellie, Aimee, and Jace, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Eugene Turner and Robert Lucian Magnan; her parents, Antonio Dorato and Nellie Irene Stroupe Dorato; and her brothers, Mike, Frank, and Bob Dorato.
A visitation will be held at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion, North Carolina, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at the same location. Dr. Tom Walker and Rev. Edward Reese will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery in Asheville. The community is invited to gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose legacy of love and commitment to family will be cherished forever.
