Margaret Elizabeth Olson - a teacher to hundreds, nurturer to many and friend to all - passed away on February 20th, 2024, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND, surrounded by family and friends. She was 80 years old.

Born December 30, 1943, in Shakopee, MN, to Albert “Bud” and Bertha (Grosz) Seaton, Margie grew up in Moorhead, MN. She attended Moorhead High School where she met her husband-to-be, Stanley Olson. Both graduated from Moorhead High School in 1961. Margie attended Concordia College where she graduated with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.

On August 12, 1967, Stan and Margaret were married at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in north Moorhead. Together they entered the world of education; Margaret with the Moorhead Public School system and Stan at Moorhead Technical College. Eventually both started working together at Moorhead High where she and Stan became the Bob Villa and Martha Stewart of the High School; Margaret teaching Home Economics and Stan teaching Industrial Arts. She impacted the lives of many students throughout her thirty year career as an educator and still had connections with many of her students after she retired.

In 1974, their son Christopher was born. In 1981, they had a second son, Johnathan, who died nine months after birth. In 2003, Margie retired from teaching and came to be known as  “the caramel roll lady” for her son’s school, the church, post office and even her dentist’s office.  Margie was also known as the hostess with the mostess.  Her backyard pool parties and gorgeous flowers were her pride and joy. Driscoll Farms provided her with joy every spring when they drove up with their truck and covered her entire back patio with hundreds of flowers that she and her family planted together.

Margie’s son, Christopher, has three children that were the apple of her eye - Colin, Lottie and Lachlan. Margie and Stan provided daycare for the younger children and “Minnie,” as her grandkids called her, was known for baking, doing art projects and making memories in the pool. Christmas was also a time of the year that Minnie made things magical for the kids. She will be greatly missed at Christmas.

It was of utmost importance for Margie that her grand-kids have a firm foundation in their faith and that Christ was the center of their hearts. Margie would rock the kids in their favorite rocking chair singing the songs Jesus Loves Me, This Little Light of Mine, and  Amazing Grace to get them to fall asleep.  That chair will remain a part of their lives as it’s passed on from generation to generation.

COPD was the cause of Margie’s death. Hospice House at Sanford took exceptional care of Margie until she passed.  We would like to extend a thank you for their grace and care at such a difficult time.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her son and daughter in-law, Christopher Olson (Lynne); Chris’ three children, Colin, Lottie and Lachlan; her aunt, Mary (Vernon) Olson, and her sister in-law, Marlys Olson. She was preceded in death by her son, Johnathan, her husband, Stan, and her parents, Bud and Bertha Seaton.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service on Friday, March 1st, 2024, from 4-6 PM. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at 1 PM at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead, followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery in north Moorhead (weather permitting).
