Margaret Marrs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service - Hinsdale on Dec. 30, 2025.
Margaret "Margie" Joan Marrs, 79, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, suddenly passed away on December 28, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on April 15, 1946, Margaret was the beloved daughter of Marvin and Helen Strauch. She enjoyed a loving and happy childhood with her siblings and cousins and attended St. Bruno Grammar School.
Margaret knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, joining Future Teachers of America while attending St. Joseph High School. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from DePaul University, followed by her Master's degree in Education from National Louis University. Margaret devoted more than 30 years to teaching across the Chicagoland area, inspiring countless students with her patience, kindness and love of learning. She believed every child deserved to feel seen and capable and wrote her master's thesis on the different ways children learn.
Margaret met her first husband, Eugene, in high school. They dated throughout college and began their life together as a married couple in Chicago before settling in the western suburbs, where their beloved children, John and Anne, were raised. When Eugene was diagnosed with leukemia, Margaret became his devoted advocate and never left his side. During his illness, she managed his care while caring for her children and continuing to advance her education for their future. After Eugene's passing, Margaret carried on her love of teaching and later found new love and companionship with her husband, Jim. Together, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, traveling, and relishing their beautiful Lake Marion home in the Northwoods.
Margaret's favorite role was being a mother, and she took great pride in her children. She taught them the importance of family, resilience, and kindness, encouraged them to follow their dreams, and was always their biggest cheerleader.
Margie had a way of drawing people in. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the friendships she made, her warmth and sincerity, her wit, and the lessons she taught and kindness she modeled every day.
Margaret was preceded in death by her adored parents and her late husband, Eugene Jeka. She is survived by her husband, Jim Marrs; her siblings Barbara (Ronald) Glosniak, Marvin (Nancy) Strauch, and Thomas (Michaele) Strauch; her children John (Kristine) Jeka and Anne (Brian) Lund; her cherished grandchildren Jocelyn, Eugene, George, Bobby, and Mae Margaret; as well as her wonderful nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren Nash, Grant, Eli, Emma, and Conor.
Visitation Wednesday, January 7th, 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 South Grant Street, Hinsdale. Funeral Thursday, January 8th, family, and friends to meet for a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 306 West Fourth Street, Hinsdale. Interment Private. Livestream
