Margaret A. McElroy (née Bahorich) August 9, 1935 - July 21, 2025 Margaret A. McElroy, age 89, of the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Lawrenceville, she lived a life marked by devotion-to her family, her faith, and her community. A talented seamstress, Margaret worked for many years at a local drapery, where her skill and care were deeply appreciated. She enjoyed the simple joys of life: playing bingo, sipping strong black coffee, and curating her beloved collection of ceramic elephants-always with their trunks raised for good luck. She was a proud and active member of the Christian Mothers organization at St. Kieran's Church, where her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Margaret was the heart and glue of our family-steady, nurturing, and full of love. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and care, and her presence brought people together in a way that can never be replaced. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip McElroy, a Pittsburgh firefighter; her parents, Anne and Frank Bahorich; and her sister, Katherine "Butchie" Bettilyon. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Kubica (Larry) and Deborah Bertoni (the late Robert); her sister, Shirley Viale (the late John); her grandchildren, Michael Kubica (Christie), Christina Kubica, Michelle McAndrew (Joe), Emma Bertoni, Patrick Kubica, and Abby Roberts; and her great-grandchildren, Keira Kubica, Louis Kubica, Brigid McAndrew, Mary McAndrew, the late Anne McAndrew, and Elia McAndrew. Friends and family will be received at D'Alessandro Funeral Home & Crematory Ltd., 4522 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201, on Thursday, July 24, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 57 21st St., Pittsburgh, PA 15222. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue in the hearts of all who knew her. James K. Murray, F.D.
