Margaret Lena (LeRoy) Monfils, 97, of Green Bay and formerly of Brussels passed away on May 7, 2022. She was born June 21, 1924, in Brussels to Ernest and Alice (Dachelet) LeRoy. On January 25, 1944, she married Clarence Monfils in Namur. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2012.
Margaret was born, raised, and lived all of her life on her great-grandfather's homestead, which he established after immigrating from Belgium. By family and friends, Margaret was considered the oral historian of the Brussels area, providing historical information to many throughout the years.
Margaret played the organ for 50 plus years at St. Mary of the Snow Church in Namur and in her earlier years was the piano accompanist for the high school band. Margaret enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
Survivors include her three children, Mary Jo Adams, Lon (Barb) Monfils and Jim (Sharon) Monfils, brother-in-law Wilmer Monfils; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Francis "Fritz" (Elly) LeRoy; five brothers-in-law and spouses, Lawrence, Walter, Sylvester, Jerry and Marvin Monfils.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at St. Francis and St. Mary Parish in Brussels. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay. Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and then after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church until time of services. On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
Special thanks to Age Well staff for the wonderful care at the assisted living facility and to the multiple of friends and family who visited her.

My deepest sympathies & prayers to Margaret's children. Margaret was a beautiful Belgian American woman and lived a long life of helping others. She shared much joy with her simple cheerfulness & hospitality. I will always remember stopping by to visit her (& Clarence before he passed) at their home farm in Brussels when I was back to visit my parents. They always had the most wonderful garden each summer.
We became close because she knew the Goffaux families in Belgium & Veronique Goffaux is my penpal. Best part was Margaret could still speak Belgian & communicate with the families. She could fill us all in on how they were doing.
The best thing is I share a birthday with Margaret and so we often connected around June 21 with a card or a phone call, and sometimes a visit. She will be dearly missed, but I will remember her each year when I celebrate my birthday. I will be celebrating Margaret too as always!
I am sure Jesus called her home with loving arms. Truly we were blessed to know such a beautiful Christian woman. She makes me proud of my Belgian heritage!
May God being Peace to you, her family.
