Margaret A. Ramirez
Born June 9, 1938 in Torreon, Mexico, Margaret Ramirez was the youngest of 10 children. Born to Mariano & Sofia Ramirez, she was seen as the baby of the family.
At the age of 87, February 27, 2026 Margaret was called home to be with the Lord.
As a young child her family spent many years traveling & working in several states from Texas to Colorado. After several years the Ramirez family finally settled in
Pinedale, CA.
Margaret attended Pinedale Elementary where she was involved in many school functions. She was part of the annual staff as a photographer and was also involved in sports. She played on the A teams for both volleyball and basketball.
In 1955 Margaret briefly attended Clovis High School before she was called to the work force. The first notable employer was Western Meat Co./ Western Turkey Co. in downtown Fresno where she worked alongside brother Mariano.
Sometime later Margaret met Frank Liscano and they eventually married in December of 1959. Together they had 3 children, Mario, Belinda and Vince Liscano. They stayed in Pinedale where Margaret remained a homemaker and raised her children. During the summers Margaret could be found at Storelli's Packing working with her family and friends. In 1976, Margaret returned to the work force as a single mother and found employment with David & Sons Sunflower Seed Co. in
Clovis, CA. where she stayed for many years. In her later years she also worked for Fresno Unified providing lunches to elementary & middle school students. These years were enjoyed the most.
Being surrounded by family, especially in the kitchen, was something Margaret loved very much. Here is where only the closest of family referred to her as Mage'. Many hours were spent with them laughing, talking and sharing the gifts of traditional Mexican dishes and recipes. Her kitchen was eventually named La Cocina de Mage. Her favorites were making Menudo on Sunday, Tamales in the winter, refried beans, Quesadillas and of course her infamous hot salsa hand crafted in her generationally passed down molcajete.
In addition to Margaret's love for cooking, she also enjoyed being outdoors. Endless weekends spent at Lost Lake with the entire family gave opportunity to recall the great stories of the past. Stories of her parents and siblings and times only few could remember.
Her adoration for plants was evident, as she had them inside and outside her home. She had a green thumb for sure! She loved crocheting and made blankets, scarves and doilies. Birds were Margaret's best friends. Throughout the years she had a Parrot, Finches, Parakeets and female Cockatiel named Cutie Girl. Her most recent bird was her little Cockatiel named Julio; he kept her quite busy.
Margaret loved music! If she wasn't found chatting with her sisters at family gatherings, she could be seen burning up the dance floor. She had moves like Tina Turner. Her favorite styles were Cumbia and Marichi. Vicente Fernández, Marco Antonio Solis and Celia Cruz, were her favorites. Her sense of humor was like no other. She was always laughing and had many great one liners. One of the family favorites was, "I Tell it like it is!"
Margaret was a devout catholic who attended St. Agnes Mission Church for many years and later St. Anthony of Padua. In addition to her love for Christ there was much revevnce to Our Lady of Guadalupe. There were many devotions to different saints. One of her greatest was to the Infant of Prague. Her devotion to the rosary was daily. One unique trait about Margaret was that she never let any of her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren escape without a parental blessing.
In 2019 Margaret lost her son Mario. In 2021 she also lost her daughter Belinda. This took a toll on her as she grieved. These times were very difficult & painful for her. While holding this immense loss, she was able to find strength through her faith in God and through this she was able to find moments of light and joy once again. She honored them by living.
Mage' was a loving mother, aunt, and grandmother who sacrificed so much for her family. She will be forever missed by all family and friends. She will remain always in our hearts and prayers.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Mariano & Sofia Ramirez, her sister's, Petra Medina, Eleanor Ruiz, Delores Roybal, Jesse Lyles, Manuella Farias, Julia Campos, her brothers Trinidad, Mariano and Antonio Ramirez, son Mario Liscano, daughter Belinda Ray and grandson Stephen Mario Liscano.
