Margaret M. Schwengels, 80, of Rockford, passed away in her home on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Margaret was born January 29, 1943, in Rockford, IL, daughter of Weldon and Lois (Ogilby) Kniess. She graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1961. Margaret married Larry Schwengels on January 27, 1962, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. She worked for Atwood Industries as a machine operator and in the assembly department for many dedicated years until their closing. Margaret was a lifetime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She volunteered much of her time at Rockford Memorial Hospital, St. Anne's Center, Carpenter's Place and St. Bridget Catholic Church helping with funeral luncheons. Margaret took great pride in taking care of her precious home as well as her beautiful yard and flowers. Most of all, Margaret cherished her time spent with family and loved ones, especially her dear grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving relatives include her son, Jeff (Marcey Ciaccio) Schwengels; grandchildren, Brianna and Brandon Schwengels, their mother, Kim Swanson; sisters, Linda Fiorenza and Marilyn (Jim) Owens; brother, Charles (Cristi) Kniess; siblings-in-law, Bonnie (Daryl) Cosgrove, Janet Kamholtz, Roger Taylor, Bud Flood and Michael Prentice; aunt, Barb Foster; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Margaret is predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, Clarence (Lucille) Schwengels; sister, Marlene (Wally) Pederson; siblings-in-law, Betty Taylor, Nancy (Jim) Radloff, Carol Flood, Fred (Linda) Schwengels, Linda Prentice and Bradley Schwengels.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 a.m. located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. Final resting place will be in Winnebago Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Margaret's name to Carpenter's Place Outreach Center, https://www.carpentersplace.org/donations/
