Margaret L. Sharits, beloved mother & grandmother, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on September 3, 2025, just shy of her 92nd birthday. Born on September 4, 1933, in the quaint town of Reliance, TN, Margaret lived a life full of love & service to her family, embodying the Christian virtues of compassion and charity. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord, at her school, in the 2nd grade through a substitute teacher.
Margaret's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family. As a daughter, she cared for her father and invalid mother in her home, putting their welfare before her own. She was a beloved wife to her late husband, Johnny, and a nurturing mother to her four children. Margaret was the last of her generation; born the middle child of godly parents Horace and Cora Presswood, she was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, Imogene Aly, a younger brother, Hobart Presswood, her husband Johnny Sharits, and her youngest daughter, Doris Gibbs.
Although she faced the sorrow of losing her beloved daughter, Doris, she found strength in her surviving daughters, Rita Butler (Doug), Linda Akin (Rich), and son Gary (Vicki). She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, Kara Strassner (Manuel), Adam Butler (Lily), Jason Zukowski, Trevor Akin (Christina), Daniel Sharits (Caitlyn), Rebecca Sharits, David Sharits (Abbey), Maggie Rushing (Tim), Matthew Gibbs, Mary Gibson (Ryan), and Michael Gibbs. Her legacy continued to bloom with 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild expected within weeks.
She had a special fondness for babies. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her face lit up at the sight of a baby, and her arms were always open, ready to embrace, comfort, and shower them with affection. It is this kind of love that will continue to echo in the hearts of those she has left behind.
Margaret's role as a homemaker was a testament to her selfless nature. She poured her heart into her family, where home-cooked meals were created, almost every dish from scratch. Margaret's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in cooking, sewing and holiday decorating. She was always ready to listen and offer words of correction or encouragement.
Margaret was always generous with her family and others, often putting their needs before her own. Her passion for nurturing also extended beyond her family. She was well known to her neighbors, and they were so kind to her. She was always thinking of ways to thank them with baked goodies or her favorite homemade strawberry jam.
We will always honor the memory of Margaret, a woman of extraordinary character and love. Her departure leaves a void in our hearts, but her memory will be cherished and held dear in the hearts of her family. Her life and legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come. We rejoice in the knowledge that Margaret's story does not end here, for she has entered the glorious presence of her heavenly Father, where she will dwell in peace and joy eternally.
