Margaret Lynn Kausen Smith passed away November 20, 2025 at the age of
84 in Redding with her family by her side. She was born May 22, 1941 in
Eureka. Lynn attended Ferndale Elementary School then graduated from
Ferndale High School and Humboldt State University. She lived in Ferndale
until 1965 when she moved to Redding. She returned in 1978 to Ferndale to
raise her son. She worked in the car business for 40 years, retiring as the
office manager at Mid-City Motor World in Eureka. She made her final move
back to Redding in 1998 to be closer to her son. In retirement, she enjoyed the
warmer weather that Redding had to offer. Her favorite hobbies were
genealogy and she had a passion for gardening. Lynn's yard was a testament
to her green thumb abilities as she was often found tending to a variety of
beautiful roses and flowers that she happily shared with everyone. It was
common to see her walking her dog in the neighborhood and would visit
along the way. She was a long-time member of the Humboldt Historical
Society and the Ferndale Museum.
Lynn is survived by her son, Brian Smith and his wife Lisa of Millville; her
cousins, Dorene Pedrotti of Ferndale; Ed Renner of Ukiah; and Deborah Rutter
of Santa Rosa. Lisa's parents, Dave and Jenny Turner of Shingletown. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Leah Kausen; her aunts, Doris
Renner and Phyllis Dont. To honor her request no services will be held.
Arrangements are under the care of Allen and Dahl of Palo Cedro. Interment
will take place at the Ferndale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Ferndale Museum, P.O. Box 431, Ferndale, CA 95536 or to your
favorite charity.
