Margaret Yanes "Peggy" Sparks died peacefully at her home on April 12, 2025.
She was born on January 12, 1941 and grew up in the village of Brockton, Pennsylvania. While she lived in Delaware throughout her adult life, she never forgot her coal region roots.
She retired from Lake Forest High School where she was guidance counselor.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, William R. "Bill" Sparks and her parents, Francis and Limbia Yanes.
Survivors include her daughters, Valerie Sparks and Jenny Sparks (Lars Norpchen) and her brother, Richard Yanes (Judy). She cherished her five grandsons: Sean Kittle (Christine), Tyler Kittle (Sarah), Christopher Kittle (Kelly), Dominic Kittle and Eamon Kittle and all her great grandchildren: Wyatt, Belle, Ethan, Nash, Nicole, Luke and Noelle.
Throughout her life Peggy was a tireless volunteer in her community. She and her husband were Caesar Rodney band parents while their daughters were in high school and continued for several years after they graduated. In her retirement she was active in RSVP serving fellow seniors (and had fun doing it!). She stayed busy to the end of life having lunch with friends and taking college classes online.
Before her death Peggy instructed her daughters to "make it a short obituary!" She didn't like any fuss being made over her! The next time you read a good book or poem think of her.
