Margaret Gail Vereen passed away in her home early Monday, November 10 at the age of 74 years old.
Gail was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on March 23, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Arthur
R. Tunnoch and Irene A. Tunnoch. For over 53 years, she was the wife of Alan B. Vereen. Gail spent her
early years in Toronto and Montreal. Her family settled in Saint Eustache, a suburb of Montreal, where
she graduated from Lake of Two Mountains High School and attended Concordia University. Before
moving to South Carolina, she worked for the Montreal Gazette in advertising.
Gail met her husband Alan during the summer of 1971 while on vacation with some family friends.
While she was in Garden City, they went on a few dates, and after Alan made a number of trips to
Canada, they were married on March 11, 1972. Alan and Gail settled in Garden City, South Carolina
after marriage and moved to Surfside Beach a few years later. Gail was a wonderful mother to her three
sons: Delton Alan Vereen; Graham Tunnoch Vereen; and Ross Andrew Vereen. She stayed home to
raise her boys for a number of years before eventually going to work for the Horry County School
District at St. James Middle School as an administrative assistant. She spent over twenty years working
in the school system with stops at Carolina Forest Middle School and Blackwater Middle School before
eventually retiring to spend more time traveling with Alan and their best friends Ron and Georgina
Nance.
Gail was a faithful and dedicated servant to her church. She and Alan have been members of Surfside
United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Gail served her church as the Sunday School
Superintendent, the Acolyte Coordinator, and was a member of the Handbell Choir. She was a member
of a number of church committees through the years and volunteered with the Jason's House program.
Gail also enjoyed helping with Wednesday night church dinners and the annual Fall Festival.
Gail is survived by her husband, Alan and her three sons Delton A. Vereen (Carrie), Graham T. Vereen
(Melinda), and Ross A. Vereen (Rebecca). She is also survived by her eight granddaughters who she
loved dearly – Lydia Taply Vereen, Ansley Gail Vereen, Clarissa Nicole Vereen, Katherine Renee Vereen
(Alex), Lillian Elizabeth Vereen, Elise Gail Vereen, Marybeth Paige Vereen, and Amy Grace Vereen.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Surfside United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel

Judy and I want to extend our sincerest condolences for your loss. I always enjoyed talking with Gail at the Wednesday dinners about Montreal and what´s happening in Canada. I also remember your commenting on my cowboy boots, I still have them. Please take care, you have an excellent church family to also support you. God bless.
