Margarita Sustaita passed away Thursday evening on May 1, 2025, in Baytown, Texas, after a battling a brain tumor and heart failure.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas, in April 1952 to Francisco Portales Sr., and Juanita Portales. She recently celebrated her 73rd birthday.
Known for her love of all things beautiful, Margarita had a flair for cosmetics and self-care. She never missed a chance to get her hair done just right or treat herself to a fresh set of nails, always looking her best with her favorite shade of Mary Kay close at hand. In addition to being a Mary Kay consultant in her day, she was also a proud home health aide.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Sustaita. She is also survived by her daughters and their spouses, Deliah & Richard Roberts, DeAnn & Craig Butterman, and step daughters and their spouses, Gilda & John Mata, and Marissa & Steven Stensland. She was preceded in death by her late, first husband and several siblings.
She is survived by her loving grandchildren: Caitlin Nunez and her husband Frank Nunez; Breana, Alexis, and Olivia Roberts; and Elizabeth, Christian, and Chase Butterman. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Isabella, Riley, and Amelia Nunez. Further, she is survived by her siblings, Rose Perez, Eloisa Hernandez, Francisco Portales, Sylvia Portales, and Jesse Portales, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1-3pm, and funeral services will be at 3pm, on May 8, 2025, all at Sterling White Cemetery in Highlands, Texas. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink, Margarita's favorite color.
